The months of October, November, and December are all about celebrating. It is a wonderful season of spending time with family and participating in precious holiday traditions.
Everyone wants to feel attractive. Shiny, healthy hair; radiant skin; straight, white teeth...these are often the standards by which we define outward beauty.
Fillings are typically composed of a substance known as dental amalgam. This substance is a combination of several metals, most commonly silver, tin, mercury, and copper.
There seems to be a lot of mystery concerning wisdom teeth... What are they? Why are they often cut out? Why in the world are they called wisdom teeth?? First of all, the term wisdom teeth is simply due to the timing of their arrival...usually during the mid-teen years. During the age of gaining wisdom. Hence, wisdom teeth.
Just because we live in a time that boasts technology superior to any other time in history does not mean that we trump the ancients in everything. For instance... According to some very interesting finds in the remains of Mt. Vesuvius's victim's teeth, residents of Pompeii experienced healthier teeth than we do today - nearly 2,000 years ago!
It's November! This is the month in which diets are kicked to the curb, families gather and eat without the pressure of gift-giving, and all things pumpkin make their way into our homes. And everything is orange and gold and (hopefully) all cooled off from our long summer. What a wonderful and joyous holiday! And it is completely centered around, well, food.
If there is a dental hygiene practice that is commonly overlooked, forgotten, or simply ignored...it is flossing. It is easy to believe that good brushing covers all of the bases, and that as long as you are brushing at least twice a day your teeth will be in tip top shape. Unfortunately, that is just not true.

"I'm young and healthy." "I don't have any tooth pain or unusual symptoms." "Going to the dentist twice a year seems a little extreme." "Do I really need to go to the dentist??" It seems like a very logical train of thought. Why would someone have their teeth checked twice a year if there seemed to be no need?

If so, then you are probably well aware of the unfortunate price that comes with enjoying such wonderful beverages...stained teeth.
Dental hygiene is anything but a modern-day concept. Fresh breath and clean teeth have been coveted by all types of people for thousands of years! Albeit, practice and technology have certainly changed and progressed. What began as a "chew stick" over 5000 years ago has now become the tool universally known as the "toothbrush." The history of this staple of dental hygiene has a fascinating and surprising history!
Xerostomia - more commonly known as "dry mouth" - affects millions of Americans. This condition can range from a mild annoyance all the way to severe complications due to an extreme lack of saliva. Either way, dry mouth negatively affects a person's quality of life.
A chipped tooth can happen to anyone. Playing sports, chewing on ice or hard candy, using your teeth to open something...all of these actions can potentially lead to a chipped or damaged tooth. A small, painless chip may seem like a minor issue not worth dealing with, but here at Montgomery Dentistry we want you to take our word for it: a chipped tooth is always worth looking into!

Real life is typically nothing like the movies. Who has time to pause right before they jump into a dangerous situation to save someone and say something really cool and intense? And there is no such thing as an “ugly” girl who takes off her glasses and all of a sudden she is thought to be gorgeous. And, unfortunately, some things just aren’t as “romantic” as the movies portray. Hollywood often creates a beautiful scene of a handsome husband waking up next to his beautiful wife and giving her a lovely “good morning” kiss. But, here on earth, we all know what reality is. A good brushing (or at the very least, mouthwash) MUST precede any “good morning” kiss. Bad breath…it plagues even the best of us.
A common question that we are asked here at Montgomery Dentistry is why we take a patient’s blood pressure for a procedure as simple as a check-up. Isn’t it a little unnecessary to have your blood pressure monitored, when all we are going to do is clean your teeth? Not at all.
Your child’s life is probably filled with things that he or she naturally sees as fun or exciting. For instance, no one has to teach their child to jump into a mud puddle…they instinctively seem to know that getting muddy is awesome.
Toddlers and young children often display some pretty cute behavior that, unfortunately, isn’t quite as cute once they are older. Smearing dinner all over their face. Wearing any article of clothing backwards. Repeating everything Mommy and Daddy say. Sucking their thumbs.
“A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.” - Phyllis Diller Everyone wants to be happy and healthy. The problem is, to achieve these things often costs so much money! To be healthy seems to require a huge grocery budget that can accommodate everything organic. And to be happy apparently involves purchasing the finest things in life to make you look beautiful.
Parents of toddlers know that learning opportunities come in all shapes and sizes! The perfect “teaching time” rarely involves your preschooler sitting quietly at the dinner table; rather, fun little lessons often occur smack in the middle of chaos and mess!

Have you ever said, “My teeth are soft, my teeth are translucent, or my teeth are VERY sensitive?” If yes, then you might be dealing with acid erosion. Acid erosion is when your tooth enamel is being worn away from the acid in our foods like: wine, fruit, sodas, and even vegetables.
No one likes to be around someone with bad breath. And even worse is to be the one WITH the bad breath. It can be downright embarrassing! Bad breath, also known as Halitosis, is caused by bad oral habits, the types of foods we eat, and other unhealthy habits.
