X-rays are a valuable tool for diagnosis and prevention. They provide a map of your tooth and root positions that determine your best method of dental care. X-rays also reveal any abnormalities in your mouth, such as cancer, tooth decay, or an abscess.
Patients sometimes ask us if x-rays are safe.
How safe are dental x-rays?
Dental x-rays give off a very low level of radiation and are considered by professionals to be safe and necessary. All people are exposed to natural radiation in the environment. Your dental x-ray series at Montgomery Dentistry is the equivalent of a single day’s exposure to natural resources.
In addition, our dentists make every effort to limit a patient’s exposure to radiation from dental x-ray exams. Such efforts include administering a lead apron during the exam and using high quality film that greatly reduces the x-ray exposure.
